Posted on February 7th, 2010 by admin
Groovy Green took the opportunity to hit Cornell University yesterday and take a tour of their Sustainable Home. (2nd place winner at the 2005 Solar Decathalon in Washington, D.C.) Our cameras were there and Jeffrey Gunther (’08) guides us through some of the highlights. Check it out! (Slight noise from wind and other guests.)

Interesting! Just a …
Interesting! Just a few questions:
1) What’s the footprint?
2) Heat storage capacity? In Btu? Or days with no sun in January?

So he’s not a great …
So he’s not a great speaker. The importance is thier Accomplishment. Maybe your smart President could articulate it better. Talk about IDIOTS

One of the most …
One of the most important contests of our time. Great video. Showed more than the photos I’ve tracked down. Cornell’s is my favorite house in the competition. Liked seeing the bedroom but would have liked a 360 of it. The window placement and dimensions, clean design, all the cabinets on one side, materials etc. are all aesthetic. Good luck to all the students on the 2007 team.I’ll do a non-rain dance for you. I hope one day to be living in such a house.

Speech 101 …
Speech 101 prohibits repetitive non-words like “um” & “ah”. Just because “most people” use these words doesnt make it OK. In fact, “Most people” are lazy. “Most people” are not effective speakers. “Most people” are idiots. I found it difficult to focus on the material he was presenting because all I heard was “ah”. IMO “ah” translates into “duh”. Articulate words mean little if they are surrounded by “duh”. Quality speaking would effectively demonstrate the importance of this accomplishment.

this is the first …
this is the first time ive ever heard about spinning magnets to heat a pot or pan. Can you guys at Cornell make a cheep 20 to 20% efficient solar cell? that would be great, because it seems like price fixing going on, and they havent dropped in 20 years. This industry could employ every american who needs a job.

Articulate yes, but …
Articulate yes, but can’t go 10 words without saying um. Its distracting from a very good video. I’m betting he says “Ah” or “um” at least 100 times in the 9 mintue video.

Whatever… I …
Whatever… I think he’s really articulate. I don’t think those repetative words that most everyone uses is enough to strike him from the ‘very good speaker’ list. Cool house.

Branch out, and make this integral part of engineering, computer science, and architecture tied to university coursework, and graduate work.

I cannot say enough …
I cannot say enough good things about this video. It is exactly what needs to happen. Jeff did a great job. You’ve thought of everything, right down to a doorless shower. All I can say is more, more, more. I will donate money if I have to. Keep improving all aspects of sustainability. Never stop this great work. I think you could get plenty of funding. I marked this video as favorite. Continue to advertise your results on youtube.
